New Shepherd CDs Date: 02-07-2006 By: EricOB	I received the new X RANDOM FACTOR cd collection yesterday from radioagain.com. Although I only listened the first 2 CDs so far, it is excellent! Very good sound quality and good shows, slick package, and even includes short highlights from Excelsior You Fathead in a printed piece inside. I'll be going back for the other set soon.	2

By purchasing from Max it helps his efforts to locate and obtain new material. About 90% of everything that is available today is due to his efforts in the beginning before the pirates started selling MP3s of HIS tapes on eBay and elswhere. It just seems a waste of resources, 12 disks in two containers--when two mp3 CDs (or 1)at a very high quality recording could be offered. (And that is not Max's deccision, but the manufacturer.) I use mp3 exclusively to listen, avoiding wma, ipod or what ever for a proven open technology and near painless . But then again, I would miss having all 12 cds and the physical manifistation of artistic design. I will always buy from Max before going elsewhere. I know he has the cost of production (time and material), continues to put forth the Shepherd name &c. I look at this period in the fictional collecting of Jean P Shepherd's programs as the infantcy of his reputation as an author on radio similar to Mark Twain would have been if he had lived and written, lectured, spoken like Jean Shepherd. He only missed the age of recording by having his voice recordings destroyed in a fire at an Edison labratory if I am not mistaken. My hope is that within the next decade, a greater access to the radio program transcripts will follow his recordings. Like Twain, Shep saw the black side of things and veiled his listeners and readers with humor. Too few people appreciate that a sense of humor is the best way to deal with life as it is.
