I was in Chicago 3 days ago, and was speaking to a local.
I said "I'll bet you're happy about the Sox !"
In a very strong Chicago accent, he said "Nah, I hope they LOSE !".
I expressed surprise and asked why ?
He said "I'm a Cubs fan, and the Southside has braggin' rights !"
Shep made it clear in several of his programs Chicago was a "world of it's own", and even different sides of town had their own loyalties.
Since New York City has it's boroughs, I'll bet Shep felt right at home.

I sorta kinda answered my own question this past weekend when I heard a Limelight show in which Shep told the story about how Ernie the Vendor came back to Cominsky one more time to help the White Sox win the pennant in '59.
Anyway,if the White Sox win the series, I wonder if White Sox fans will do what Red Sox fans did last year, which was to go to the graves of their families and place Red Sox and World Series pennants on them in tribute to those who waited in vain for 86 years. |

Very possible!!!!
The media has already interviewed crying, emotional Sox fans saying "they wish their grandparents were here to see this !!"

Well, too bad nobody can place a White Sox pennant on Shep's grave since he was cremated. His father's grave perhaps? Good luck to the White Sox & no 450ft. foul balls! |

diskojoe. I live in Sharon Ma so I know the Boston history with Red Sox and "wait til next year" [:(] I grew up in Belmont and played little league baseball, pitcher on an other team was Wilbur Wood who went on to pitch for White Sox years later as a knuckle baller. As i'm thinking now he was probably a perfect choice for Shep to like. Sort of a "Slob art" type thrower. |

Hi murdock. Nice to meet a fellow Red Sox victim. Anyway, I'm not too bummed out about the Red Sox this year. At least we don't have to hear about the "Curse of the Babe" anymore. I have heard of Wilbur Wood. For some reason, I remember from my vast pile of dynamic trivia that he had a heart attack during his playing days. Good Luck to the White Sox & win it for Shep! |

A salute to the World Champion Chicago White Sox! I wonder what Shep would have thought about the whole thing, especially the fact that the Astros were ordered to keep their roof open. Anyway, while I was watching Game 1, I noticed the images of past White Sox legends such as Carlton Fisk[:)] along the outfield wall & I wondered if Banananose and the world's worst outfielder were there. |

I knew not to go to Chicagoland last night !!!!!!
At 4 A.M., that place was a combination zoo and circus !!!!!!!!!!![:D][:D][:D]
(With all the "ghosts" being ressurected in the last couple of years at the Series, maybe the "Bums" will get some sense and move back to Brooklyn?).[:o)]
