You'se gonna learn a whole heap about the 'Hess', son. I still learn something about it every time I go up on this board...Cj
PS--I look at this little soiree as acquiring the Kentucky/Barkley lake area as possible annexation to 'Da Region'. |

Wull, nothin' like co-optin' a girl's idea and making it happen.
Ken and I had wondered (sometime a year ago in emails) if my idea of
us all getting together would work out. I said I didn't think anyone was interested
in pursing the idea---but, now lookee here.
Glad you guys are getting together. Have fun.
Tom, I am not that far away--if i were feeling well enough to drive the distance.
Thanks for the invite. Afraid it won't be possible this time. If you find you hit it
off and plan to gather again, maybe I will be able to make it.

Same here S C. I'd like to make that trip over to the west side of KY, but it's just a little too far for me to go at this time. My nemesis hit me again last month for the first time in over a year, so it'll be a while before I drive any long distances.

S.C. and Ken, it would be great to have both of you with us for this get together. I wish you could both make it.
The same goes for the rest of you Sheptalk buddies.

I don't think we've forgotten about that idea either, SC. I know at the time I would have wanted to do it, either we were out of town doing something or it was so unforgivingly hot that...well, who would want to spend good time in malls or in the house under the air conditioners? I'm still in for the idea of a get together (while we still can), but I think we should toss it out there from time to time just to keep it alive. Next spring some time??...Cjquote: Originally posted by S C Jones

I'd sure be up for it! I would like to do it in Hammond so we could visit some of our old neighborhoods and stuff. We could have a meal at Tiebel's or House of Pizza or whatever might still be around from the good old days.

Thanks, guys, for keeping the idea alive.
And, CJ--you are so right about the weather being a factor. The spring brings
tornado threats and hits (especially up that way, it seems).
I had not noticed the number of rain/storm days in Murray until this past spring/summer. My neighbor has a son who is now at the college. That and my knowing that you guys live up in that area has made me look more closely at the weather patterns.
AND THE HEAT was unbearable this past summer--even with less humidity.
Tom, now you are suggesting I REALLY get fit for travel, if Hammond is to be a
reconnoiter site.
Let's do keep the idea alive and since Ken is the farthest from point of gathering,
we need to get him in on any plan.
Youse guys have a good time with your spouses and memories of the "good old days"...

Ann and I are also looking forward to the meet at Lake Barkley Lodge. We are to meet at five o'clock for those who might want to join us. It will be "Dutch Treat" unless Tom has hit the lottery and that is hard to do when you don't gamble. I plan on calling the lodge tomorrow to see what is on the menu. Whatever it is I know it will be good! |

Just called the Lodge, Saturday is BBQ night. BBQ ribs, chicken, pulled pork and beef brisket to die for! Also fried chicken, plain pulled pork and more. A salad bar and all kinds of veggies.
I am getting hungry!!

Tom,
Have you seen this: (ON Planet Hammond) Chuck Biller: For all you HHS grads from 1963, 1964 & 1965. We're planning a 22 hour, 2 day get-together at Wicker Park next July 27 & 28, 2013. Come to my page, chuck.biller.39 and join the group for the reunion for further details.
I posted it earlier, but thought it might have gotten lost in our sudden burst
of posting about the Saturday Hammond Bash. |

...and I'm still thinking about pizza, too. I have been all day. The name of the place in Princeton is Pagliai's, as it is here in Murray. Here's the difference though:
In Princeton, people rated it 5 (out of 5) stars. In Murray it only got 3...Cj |

Well, what was for supper? Did you guys have fish, fried chicken, or steak?
Nice picture with everyone in short sleeves---and it is November.
cj: if the pizza has fennel in the sausageÑ real italian sausageÑsoutherners don't seem to like it. I cannot find a pizza down here that compares to NWI. One place is even called Chicagos' Pizza---but, it just isn't much more than bland tomato sauce with cheese on top. I asked the Chicago place about fennel and they said they had it when they first opened, but people didn't like it.

They had just about everything on that buffet! There was fried chicken, fish, bbq ribs, bbq brisket, pulled pork, and that's just what I can remember. Lots of veggies and casseroles, great salad bar too.

Oh SC, how right you are!!
We create our own pizzas here at home with the 'Boboli' style crusts. I buy bulk sweet Italian sausage in the local Kroger and I also have a shaker full of fennel because I have to add. There is one pizza joint in all of Murray near the university that is salvagable, Matt B's. But like you say, that sausage on it is from some other dimension. It tastes more suitable for breakfast or something. To make matters worse, the pieces are round, like chick peas, so about half of them roll off the slice when you pick it up. I had a weak moment when I wanted to suggest the 'proper' ("Region Rat Italian") kind of sausage for pizza, but I think you are right. People won't take to it. Besides, who's gonna listen to some damn Yankee spill into town and start telling people how to cook...Cjquote: Originally posted by S C Jones

C.J. Johns Pizza in Cal City used that sausage. It looked to me like dog food but their pizza was as good as it got. That means almost as good as Tommy Aurelios on Ridge Road.
Looks like you guys still know how to have a good time too. Glad everyone is healthy and well fed. Tom w |

I never had John's, as much as I always heard about it. I said that the sausage here would be better suited for breakfast, but I'm not absolutely certain of that. I can't really describe it as I have never had anything like it before. It's not horrible, but it sure isn't what I am used to either.
I guess everybody has their 'fave' pizza no matter where you go on the planet. I was spoiled on Cande's. "House" came in second and in my eye, everybody else was jockeying for position. I've had Aurelios in several different locations and it was good, but we are talking a whole different time frame. They opened one in Portage (carry out only)while I was still there. When they first opened it was some 'outta sight' pizza, but after their foot was in the door the quality fell off quite a bit. Sanfratello's was great, but only in the Glenwood, Il. location (it's worth the trip).
Bottom line: they don't know what pizza is down here. Domino's, Pizza Hut and 'cookie cutter' crap like that isn't even in the running with me...Cj |

It is my understanding that even though they have the same name Pagliai's in Murry and Princeton are not owned by the same prople.

With all those Pagliais out there, I translated "Pagliai" to see if it came up with anything conducive to pizza or Italian food and this is what I came up with:
straw stack, haystack, rick
Not so much, eh?...Cj |

When you shred Mozzarella and put it on top of dough & sauce---if it is
put on thick enough, it could resemble a haystack ??? SC
