It always seems to me that Christmas comes and goes too fast but New Years takes its time. I very much remember sliding between two parked cars on my way into a New Years Eve party at Howard Johnsons in North Hammond. I also remember thinking that it would be nice to start winter on Dec. 24th and start spring on Jan 2. I don't remember if the party was worth trying to cross the parking lot while walking upright or not.

I once thought that Hammond winters lasted entirely too long. But then I moved to Minnesota and experienced only two seasons - nine months of winter and three months of poor sledding.
