OK, Lar, since you are making a big deal of it, I am going to dedicate this 1000th post to thanking YOU for all of your contributions to this message board.
Quality is more important that quantity and no one has contributed more quality posts than you have.

Tom--
Jeez, you didn't have to do that! I don't want no accolades from yous' guys---I just enjoy being able to share this stuff with people who can really appreciate it.
As time goes by, I realize that I've got all of this stuff sitting around in boxes, etc, and I'd like to put it out into the world somewhere where it might bring enjoyment. Yeah, it was more fun when Mike was around to chime in, but what are we supposed to do---give up and stop communicating? I'm sure Mike's enjoying it somewhere now, and I know Sheptalk gave him a lot of pleasure in those last few difficult years he was going through. I know he valued all of your friendship too, since it gave him a sense of belonging to a community or family, the sort of thing that he otherwise wasn't too interested in (and that's one of the reasons that I'm adding to the Jefferson School thread---because Mike started it).
So we keep hoping that REAL LIFE doesn't continue to screw things up for us so that, among other things, we can enjoy sharing the happy things from our past with other folks who can relate to them.
Thanks for keeping this thing going, Tom [^]

You are most welcome, Larry.
While thanks are being passed around, let us not forget our gracious host, Mr. Jim Clavin. He provides us with this message board to share our memories.
And, let us thank the Lord that we all had such wonderful childhoods and that we have such sweet memories to share with one another.

Hello, Everyone. My name is Tom, and I just found this place today.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the posts I have read so far, and all the reminiscing going on here is ointment for my soul.
I was born and raised in Hammond, and most of my childhood was spent on Woodward Avenue, two blocks east of Calumet Ave. and running for only one block between 165th Street and Cleveland Street.
I'm a 1967 graduate of Hammond High School, and I look forward to our 40th class reunion, which is going to be held August 3rd thru August 5th, 2007.
I have lived in Kentucky since 1973, and I sure do miss the Hammond that I remember from my childhood. I have been back to Hammond a few times in the last two years, but before then, it had been many, many years since I had been there. I was so sad to see what had become of the glorious downtown of the 1960's that I loved so dearly.
I hope to do some big time reminiscing in here with others who share my love for the Hammond of the 1950's and 1960's.

Hey Tom, I know this thread was put up in your honor, but I hope you don't mind if I throw in a couple comments for interest. The original Hammond thread was started on 9/20/2005 and now is 27 pages long. Everything before that was Shep related. Bill Bucko is the first member who is still active to post on the Hammond thread. His first post on the Hammond thread was on 10/20/2005. The person who started the thread did not post on it a second time.

I don't mind at all, Ken. I'm just thankful that we have this great place to reminisce and that we have such great memories to share with one another.

Thanks for the info. I wish that 'our' could excist for the kids growing up now. I think if asked the adults of the future would say the same thing in reference to their timeframe.
As far as the posters are concerned: it's amazing who comes and goes and who sticks around. |

Ken, I'm sorry for missing your question when you first posted it. I was going back over this thread and just now saw your post.
My first post was in a thread I created in the Hammond Forum called "New Kid on the Block."
