Jean Shepherd wrote "A Christmas Story" and narrated the movie. He also was a radio personality in New York City.
He grew up in Hessville.

Thanks Tom ...
Wrote & Narrated ???
WOW ... I never knew that ... Nice to know Hammond
had a celeb out there.
Someone once told me that the black actor named James Edwards
was from Hammond. Anyone know of this to be a fact?
I believe he starred in Patton for one. Played George C Scotts aide
in the movie.

Patton was his last movie. He noted for HOME OF THE BRAVE and films like The Caine Muteny. We also had an actor who was in several of the Bowery Boys features. I can't remember his name but he wrote a series of articles for the Times in the early 50's about trying to act in Hollywood.
