Madvecks Date: 12-03-2009 By: Roger D	Does anyone know if Madvecks on Calumet Ave. at about 171st. is still there? In the mid 80's they had the best polish sausages around. My son was a mechanic at Montgomery Ward and we would meet there for lunch.	6

12-03-2009 ( Reply#: 4069 )	HassoBenSoba	YEP---Madvek's is still alive and kicking. They've survived all of the recent construction on Calumet and seem to be doing well. I was introduced to their food a few years back by "Big" Dave Innes, who now runs the Hammond Civic Center. Dave is the guy who did the camera work for my Mel Blanc video, but he's busy and rather hard to pin down. So to FORCE him to sit down with me and plan the video-shoot, I did the obvious: called him and offered to buy him lunch at Madvek's. Dave was there in a flash, we ate, discussed the video...and the rest is history. Madvek's serves the loose hamburgers....they're good without being exceptional. Rather pricey, too....but I still like the small-town feel of the place. Larry r

Hey, maybe while I am off between Christmas and New Years we could take a trip up to Da Region and hang out for a day? I would love to do a little driving around and also would like to spend a few hours in the Local History Room (used to be called the Calumet Room) of the HPL going through old files Tomster
