Absolutely -
Do these saying ring a bell?
"You haven't been shown unless you've been shown by Schoenburg's" (furniture store adjacent to Lewin's clothing store in East Chicago)
Irv ad plugging furniture.
"Applewood farms....Is it an Apple? No, Is it a Farm? No. It's a turkey, gobble gobble gobble!" Irv ad plugging turkeys.
And of course, the song "Fascination" will be forever etched in my brian as the lead in to Irv's show. My mom would listen to him religiously every day. And wasn't their main radio personality name Peterson? His name eludes me, but he was on WJOB for years. And of course the great Jan Gabriel (RIP_ with dedication line for the teenagers in the 1960's.
I always like Irv's pithy remarks on the situations of the day. And whenever I had to go to a wedding or some other dress up affair, Lewin's clothiers was the place to go. Their taylor would alter your suit to fit you perfectly. You never walked out of the store with the suit you bought on that day, because they would make adjustments to it and call you when it was ready.
A great man, and a great business, in my opinion. |

Anybody remember WGRY 1390 in Gary. In the early 60's they were a day time station that played top 40 and I thought they had a better sound than WLS. They had an afternoon DJ named Hoot Gibson. |

Hey Tom, speaking of Dick Biondi on that other site. Do you remember the oringinal dj lineup on WLS? Clark Weber was on 'east of midnight' and he started his show with 'Night Train' |

I remember Clark Weber for sure. He eventually became Program Director, and he and Dick Biondi got into a huge argument, which lead up to Dick leaving the station.
Here's a website about WLS.

I e-mailed the good Mr Biondi, back in 2006:
"Those of us in high school back then (Morton HS, Hammond, Ind. 1963-66) still remember your broadcasts as a treasured memory. You were #1 for us. (And we always were down on Clark Weber. We believed everything Ron Riley said about him: even about the TurtleWax he used on his "chrome dome.") You were the best!"

P.S. Anyone remember Ron Riley's "sidekick," Bruce Weatherly, who did such disgraceful things as falling into the punch bowl on New Year's Eve? (Whereupon Riley exiled him to the outside windowledge.}

Bill, Did you get a response from Dick? I think he is still on in Chicago. Is Clark Weber still alive? |

Yes, I got a kind reply from the wonderful Mr. Biondi. Don't know anything about Clark Weber's status.

In 1977 Clark Weber W9FFB was special guest at the Lake County Amateur Radio Club's banquet and he was keynote speaker. It was pretty good, he was very entertaining. He spent a little time making fun of Chicago Eddie Schwartz. Eddie was a target back then.

When I was in high school, I used to fall asleep with a radio under my pillow listening to Art Roberts. And a few years later when I worked as a security guard, I used to listen to Larry "The Legend" Johnson. |

When was Art Roberts on? I can still hear him say at the end,"This has been a work of Art!"quote: Originally posted by Jay

That top 40 chart up above. I was surprised by two items. The diversity of the music and how many of the lower songs I don't remember but must have heard. I do remember the #40 song! |

Art Roberts replaced Dick Biondi on the 9pm to Midnight (seven days a week) shift sometime in late 1963 or early 1964. And sometime during Art Roberts career at WLS, he did switch over to a day shift. However, evenings is when I listened to him. |

Just thought I would bump this back to the top as a reminder to everyone. I'm listening to a Casey Kasem Top 40 Countdown from October 28, 1972, on ReelRadio right now.

Time to bring this thread back to the top. There may be some folks who had not made it that far back in the list of threads.
I am right now listening to an hour long ReelRadio recording of a Ron Britain show on WCFL from 1/28/67. That date should mean something to all of us around here... the blizzard.
You guys really ought to sign up for ReelRadio. In my original post I said it cost $15 per year but I just renewed for $12. I guess the fee has gone down.
