Balancing salt shakers Date: 05-06-2009 By: Tom J	Did any of you guys do this when you were teenagers? At Maid-Rite's some HHS kids would balance the salt shakers at their tables on one grain of salt. I finally got my skills honed enough to be able to do it. It wasn't easy to do, but the beveled edge at the base of the salt shaker would allow it to be leaned way over and kept from falling all the way over by one grain of salt. It looked like the shaker was perfectly balanced, and you couldn't see the grain of salt, of course. 05-07-2009 ( Reply#: 3054 )	Alan Vandever	It was easier to do my way. I would shake out a small hill of salt and balance the shaker. Then blow away the excess salt. Same result, just a little easier. I used to do that in restaurants all over to try and impress the waitresses.

05-08-2009 ( Reply#: 3059 )	duane	Well Chris, you've obviously never seen my hideous great hooter! Actually, we've found people with small noses can often do this easier than the Jimmy Durante types. I can't believe you haven't seen this parlor trick done before. Because the spoon has a curve in it, gravity tends to pull it straight down. The curve in the spoon is enough for the friction to overcome gravity, and it just hangs there on the end of your nose. You can even shake your head slightly and the spoon will swing back and forth without falling off. First make sure that you nose is dry (wipe off any skin oil), then carfully place the bowl of the spoon on the tip of your nose. It takes several tries to get it to stay, but eventually it will hang there. Teaspoons are most often used, but I've seen it done with Tablespoons and even a couple of times with big serving spoons. Now, you will be the life of the party!!!
