Former Hessvillites Date: 09-05-2008 By: seejay2	Mark Kiesling, a Times columnist, wrote an interesting article which appears in this morning's (9/5/08) paper. For those of you who have been away for a long time, this article may seem a bit shocking to you. My mother still lives there, but we are making provisions for her to live elsewhere, closer to a family member, and sell the house. 09-05-2008 ( Reply#: 2274 )	wvcogs	Our 50th year reunion committee for the MHS class of 1960 was thinking about scheduling the reunion on a weekend when Morton has a home football game so class members could attend the game if they desired. After reading this, my recommendation to the committee with be to forget about the game. There are a few members of our class who still live in Hessville. As far as I know, they have no plans to move. However, I do agree with you CJ, it is time for your mother to get out of town. Although I am sure there are other issues, it's unfortunate that one of the main reasons she should leave her home of 50+ years is the one mentioned in the Times column. Ken...
09-05-2008 ( Reply#: 2275 )	seejay2	The whole point being that it's nowhere even close to being the same place it was when we grew up there. Who woulda thunk it? Back then when you got older, people in the neighborhood looked out for one another. You didn't have to worry about being 'the old people down the block who live alone'. When I left there for the second and final time in 2001, places were getting broken into in broad daylight and the gang signs were getting painted on everything a bit too close to home. When you got your butt kicked (and I did more than once), chances are you knew it was coming and probably had it coming; not just for walking in the wrong place at the wrong time with a starter jacket or sneakers that someone thought they needed more than you did, and is willing to hurt you badly for them. There is no one thing that has happened with mom, but like Kiesling said,"If you think it can't happen where you live, you're whistling in the graveyard"---and it is happening. It's a move we siblings knew was coming sooner or later and the time has come. All of her old friends are gone now except for one and she herself is now entertaining the idea of moving closer to her daughter. I would hate to see you guys give up the game night over that article, and I'm certainly not suggesting that you do so, but I felt the article was worth fowarding to all.........Cj

About the only people from Hessville I remember. I do remember going to the "Wild Goose" at the armoury on weekends. Long live Dex Card!!! That's a blast from the past. Still runnin against the wind.

TED NUGENT, BLACK OAK ARKANSAS, STYX, AND A BUNCH OF OTHERS IN THE EARLY 70's.... THAT WAS GREAT FOR THE UP AND COMING MUSIC PERFORMERS AT THE TIME... B BRIZ 1957
