Not so far, but it would be great if we could pull it off.
Welcome, Boilermaker. Glad you have joined us.
I'm a Boilermaker too, a Purdue Boilermaker that is.

Oh, by the way, I am glad you are digging into the old posts and bringing those threads back to life. We had some great threads going that just kind of fizzled. It's good to have some "new blood" and to see these discussions being revived.
I think we have five or six pages of threads, so knock yourself out. Don't be afraid to revive any of those old threads.

Howdy Boilermakers, I'm a Piper.
Although I would be interested in a historial research meeting, does anyone know if there are any restrictions about accessing these resources for those of us who do not possess a Hammond Library card? |

I was just thinking about how much fun it would be for all of us on this board to get together in Hammond sometime. Man, could we ever do some reminiscing!
Today probably would have been a good day for that. It's raining from Chitown all the way thru Texas. What else is there to do?...Cj |

I've been up in the history room and I don't have a Hammond Library card since I haven't lived in Hammond for 40 years.

I was born in Hammond, in 1951. I lived on Summer St. for one year. Then my family moved to Highland. I graduated from HHS in 1969 and from Purdue, W.L., in 1973. I now live in South Texas.

This message board bears no resemblance, thank God, to the Times message board. There is no vulgarity and no flaming here. People respect each other on this board and we all get along.
This board is much more oriented toward the "old days" of Hammond, not toward the contemporary scene like the Times message board.
I was two years ahead of you at Purdue. When you said you got out of HHS in 1969, I assume you meant Highland High School, not Hammond High, right? I went to Hammond High.

Please let me know if you got my Email that should have come through Sheptalk. We have had some trouble with that feature lately.
I sent you the Email while ago to welcome you to our group.

Jay, please forgive my ignorance, but what is a "Piper?" |

I'll jump in here, as I was both a Piper and a Boilermaker.
The Purdue Pipers were the sports team name of Purdue Calumet in Hammond. (Yeah, I know...a dumb name...as in who could be afraid of the Pipers?). After 2 years at Purdue Calumet, I went to West Laugh-a-lot and became a Boilermaker.
Our joke was that Purdue Calumet (PUCC) was going to change its name to:
South Hammond Institute of Technology (You figure out the acronym!) |

Well, ain't that a kick in the head! I went to PUCC for my first year of college and didn't even know I was a "Piper." :) I was there for the '67 - '68 school year.

As duane has already explained, students at Purdue Calumet Campus were known as "Pipers" whereas Purdue Lafayette Campus students were known as "Boilermakers". I remember walking past a display case in the Gyte building where they had an Indian Peace Pipe on display. I guess that is why we were called "Pipers".
Speaking of Purdue Calumet, I remember during freshman year, we had to wear gold beanie caps with a black letter "P" on the front. Who remembers that? |
