Are there any websites reprinting articles from Playboy (sounds like the old joke-i'm wanting to read Playboy for the articles)-I'd love to find Sheps and Shel Silversteins especially-so far, no luck-finding lists of titles but no actual stories-granted i havent explored this site fully yet, maybe theres some here? any help is appreciated.

Just look in the left column of the Flicklives site for Magazine articles, then go to PLAYBOY!

Actually, there was a time when reading Playboy for the articles wasn't a complete joke. I don't think Hefner's interest in the magazine after the first few years actually strayed much beyond the centerfold, but from the late 50's to the early 70's, he hired a series of very smart editors who spent the money necessary to buy material from some very smart and talented people--including Jean Shepherd.

I was allowed to go backstage at Princeton and spent around two hours listening to Shep after his show. I mentioned that I have alot of Playboys mags from the 60's given to me by a coworker.

Shep answered "Didn't he know that they're worth money. Upcoming writers had articles in those issues who are major authors today".

In the early 70's I remember going to a local used bookstore near Phila City Hall and going to the magazine section. While the others were looking at the "articles", I was skimming the table of contents and then going to the last page and checking to see if Shep was in the next months edition. I would purchase the issues that Shep wrote in.

Thanks to Jim for his great site and to the memory of K2ORS.
