I posted this on the Edward C. Minas Store Family page on Facebook and I wanted to share it here with my Sheptalk friends.

"The book is finished! Dave Minas said that his dad, Edward C. Minas III, finished the book the day before he died.

Now the book is ready to go to the publisher but Dave doesn't know what size the book should be or whether it should be hard bound or paper back. Obviously the cost will depend on these factors. He doesn't know how many copies should be printed or how much people will be willing to pay for a copy. He is not interested in making money on the book but he would like to at least cover the publishing and distribution costs. That's only fair.

Many of us have said that we are very anxious to get a copy of this book when it is published so now is the time to speak up. Dave needs some idea of how many books he can count on being sold and what price people would be willing to pay. Once again, he is only interested in recovering his costs.

Would you please post how many copies you would want and what you would be willing to pay for a soft back copy and how much you would be willing to pay for a hard bound copy?

I would like one copy and would pay $25 for soft back or $50 for a hard bound copy.

Now, please help get the word out about the book!"

So, my friends, please post in this thread how many copies you would want and what price you would be willing to pay for softback copy and what price you would pay for a hard bound copy.

Tom,
I don't know much about them, but I understand a lot of people are publishing ebooks these days at a relatively low cost. You may want to suggest this possibility to Mr. Minas.

Yeah, Ken, I have suggested that he might look into going through Amazon.

For goodness sake, YES, self-publishing a book through Amazon is EASY, SIMPLE and INEXPENSIVE!

Traditional publishing required a massive investment, and the printing of a minimum of hundreds to thousands of copies at a time.

The newer, computerized print-on-demand technology, now available through numerous sources including Amazon's CreateSpace subsidiary, requires NO investment, and NO minimum number of copies printed.

My 376-page novel costs just $ 5.50 to print. My 146-page novel costs a little over $ 2.

The only drawback, compared to traditional publishing: you have to do all your own publicity. (Though Amazon does make your books available online, for a small part of the sale price.)

[ONE WORD OF ADVICE: internal photos should be processed and sized in a specialized program like Adobe Photoshop Elements. If you resize them in MS Paint or MS Word, that unnecessarily reduces the resolution (dots per inch).]

Anyone interested can check out my books at

The above refers to paperback format.

You can also print e-books through Amazon, using their Kindle format.

The only thing is that many people who have fond memories of Minas's are not computer literate and do not have PC's or Internet connections.

Does Amazon print hard copies of the books for those who want them?

Yes, of course. My first post was all about Amazon's paperback publishing. Their paperback publishing subsidiary is called CreateSpace. Their ebook publishing subsidiary, of course, is Kindle.

If you want your book available both in paperback and ebook, you simply upload it both to CreateSpace and to Kindle.
