Classmates.com has added some yearbooks to its site.

Currently for Morton they have:
1956
1957
1968
1969
1970
1971

As a courtesy to those not fortunate enough to attend Morton, I'll mention they also have:

Hammond High
1946
1952

Hammond Tech
1952
1967

Bishop Noll
1953
1954
1955
1956
1960
1965
1966
1967
1968
1969

The yearbooks are apparently accessible in preview mode to non-paying members like me; full view requires Gold membership. There's an option to buy reprints: for 1957, black and white $39.95, color $59.95 (though only two or three pages are in color).

After a few pages of the free preview, Classmate.com shrinks the pages, and a button appears: "Buy a yearbook pass." Cripes, I bet when they were in high school they tried to make freshmen buy hall passes!

Clicking "Buy a yearbook pass" merely gives you a chance to upgrade to Gold membership. I imagine you can probably get away with continuing the (larger size) free preview by deleting your browser's cookies.

Yeah, Bill, that is a really cool feature they have started. I'm finally starting to get something for my Gold membership dues.

I hope they add a BUNCH more yearbooks!

The reason that there is only the 2 years for Tech is, I believe, that rhere was only those two years that anyone actually graduated. Four years was a long time. (T.I.C.) Tom W

Hey, they finally made Gold membership inexpensive enough even for the terminally cheap (i.e. me)! $ 7.50 for 3 months. So I went ahead and joined.

I've just finished downloading the entire 1957 Top Hat. Ugh, there's no "download" feature, right-clicking does nothing, so you have to do it the hard way: (on a Windows pc) hit Alt+PrintScreen, then paste into MS Paint.

The resulting image does not have a lot of resolution. If you want to see more detail, you'll have to use Classmate's "magnifying glass" feature.

Sorry guys, but then there are those of us who have kept the original Morton Top Hats all these years and have bought others on eBay for much less than Classmates.com is charging.

1954 - the first Top Hat - 2 copies from eBay
1956 - my wife's copy
1957 - 2 copies - 1 is my wife's and 1 is mine
1958 - 2 copies - ditto
1959 - 2 copies - ditto
1960 - 1 copy - mine
1961 - 1 copy - eBay
1962 - 1 copy - eBay
1964 - 1 copy - eBay

I even have 54, 59, and 60 scanned and may send them on CD for cost to a few good friends who attended MHS during those years.

If anyone is interested, here is the complete 1954 Top Hat, the first edition of the Morton High School yearbook. It is on PicasaWeb, and the pages can be enlarged to full size by clicking on the magnifying glass near the top of the page. I also have the 1957, 1958, 1959, and 1960 Top Hats on PicasaWeb. If you are interested in seeing any of these, please let me know.

Ken,
The Freshmen you have shown in the 1954 Top Hat are actually at least 1953.
I was a 1954 Freshman.

Awesome that you have done all this work, though. It is enjoyable to go through
whatever year of the 50's. Memories just flood the mind when a face appears and
the name is one you remember and can connect to a happening in your life.

THANK YOU for the work and for sharing. I Would love to see the 1957 and 1958
Top Hats also.

You have been a busy bee getting all this done.
Sue
