I need to know if a video of this is available. From what I've been able to find, the answer is no. My ex-husband, who grew up with Flick, loaned a copy of it to my daughter over Christmas. In a bizarre turn of events, only Jean Shepherd could make light of, she literally threw it out with the baby's bathwater. She knows she destroyed one of her Dad's treasures. If not available, is there anyway VHS tapes can be dried out???

Yes, I have it on VHS or DVD.
Cheap! (as they used to say on the cover of MAD.)
Write for complete list of Shep videos:

I also have a copy that I've put onto a DVD and would be happy to make it available. I also have the Great American 4th of July, and some other unavailable videos from the 1980s to share. Details are on my website

Someone who obtained this video appears to be auctioning off copies on eBay. If you think about it, auctions are based upon the idea that the item for sale is scarce. In reality one can make as many copies of a non-protected DVD as one wants. Caveat emptor.

A friend just showed me his copy. I have submitted the following comment to Internet Movie Database:

Used cars, the school play, a big crush on a girl--and the realization
of what the future may bring; Dad at the corner bar while country music plays...sound like remnants of our past? Jean Shepherd's past?!

Better that "Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters". It
almost seemed like a TV sitcom (I wanted to "tune in next week" for
more). Shep fans know that "The Wonder Years" kinda stole the idea of a man who narrates over memories of his childhood. You'll see that here (and in the classic "A Christmas Story", of course). While it is
technically out of print, some copies can be obtained via a link at the Shep fan site

This past weekend I brought my copy of Josephine Cosnowski over to my niece's house to show it to her and her husband for her birthday, since she is the result of my brother-in-law's falling in love w/a Polish beauty (my sister). Anyway, they are both in their early 30's & have only know Shep via A Christmas Story (like everybody else it seems). The one thing they both said as they watched the movie was, "It's just like A Christmas Story". They both enjoyed it very much. My niece especially enjoyed Daphne. Another thing they both said was "Why isn't this available?" It is too bad that WGBH/PBS dosen't put this out, along w/the other two (Phantom & 4th of July), as DVDs, as I do think there could be a market, especially if you hype it saying that they came from the creator of A Christmas Story.
