Did anyone see the article in the Holiday 2016-17 edition of Vanity Fair magazine about the making of "A Christmas Story"? Its title is "Santa Gets His Claws". It has some nice photos, and interviews with most of the former child actors who starred in the movie. There are also some interesting comments that pertain to the somewhat tense relationship between director Bob Clark and Shep during the making of the movie. Unfortunately, there are no references to Hammond/Hessville or even Indiana for that matter. But it is still fun reading.

[Thought I would break the ice in the long freeze between post!]

A link to the Vanity Fair article was posted shortly after the article was first published, both on the Facebook page for the upcoming documentary about Shepherd, as well as right here on the home page for Flick Lives. (Both venues also include a picture of the magazine's "engaging" cover . . . .)

Like most such "popular" articles, the Vanity Fair piece reflects shoddy research. For example, it still propagates the misinformation that Shep was married only three times, ignoring his first wife, a Hammond native (whom he would divorce in Kentucky a year after their marriage).

The piece also neglects to mention, when discussing the film's popularity and importance, that A Christmas Story was one of the selections by the Library of Congress for its prestigious National Film Registry, a singular honor and benchmark for cultural significance.

BTW, I frequently post original research on Sheptalk.
